It was never my intention to even attempt-to-try to be “Cool As Ice”. Sometimes these things just happen organically. I mean, I’m no Justin Bieber or anything… I was just perusing ebay one night and came across this awesome leather jacket at an amazing price. There was just something about the yield sign design that was reminiscent of the Skidz logo. Two weeks later I was the proud owner of a mint 1990s-vintage “Phase 2” leather jacket. I posted a picture of the jacket on Instagram when it arrived and soon after I heard the now famous words, “That’s Vanilla Ice’s Jacket.” Who knew?!
That’s Vanilla Ice’s Jacket…
So I did a little research and this is what I found (after wading through the entire movie “Cool As Ice”). He didn’t wear it in that movie but he did wear similar jackets that were also made by Phase Two. So I did a little bit of Google searching and I found a poster for sale on ebay from Flörsheim, Germany. It was a pull out poster from the 90s German magazine Bravo. Ice also wore this jacket in the photos used in the classic “Yo MTV Raps Collectors Cards”.
As you can see the jacket is very similar to the one I purchased and Ice is also wearing Skidz, which is funny because that’s what drew me to the jacket in the first place! And now I am, cool as Ice.

Since the early 90s I have dreamt of the perfect cape. A cape befitting a powerful and fashionable witch. I wanted to be wrapped in the lush folds of a warm and protective veil while collecting herbs and wild flowers deep in the woods behind my family home. I wanted a cloaking shield that I could hide in while I was on one of my meditation retreats atop boulders in the hills below the high tension lines. I simply wanted a substantial cape that didn’t look like a cheap Halloween costume… Yet, every cape on the market at that time, (and sadly still to this day) are made out of some thin inferior synthetic-velvet, (or worse, crush velvet material).
A knowledgeable witch I was. Able to manifest even my most seemingly unobtainable desires, but able to materialize the cape of my dreams I was not. I was not yet the amazingly talented and resourceful clothing designer that I am today… So, fast forward to the present; behold, “The Cape” made of fine Italian wool and expertise tailoring. The epaulet style toggle closure at the neck, oversize hood, and on-seam armholes make this a stylish and still functional cape befitting any urban, suburban, or rural setting.
Now, I walk the cold hard streets of an austere urban jungle cloaked in this magnificent shroud rather than the rolling hills and alluring woods of my childhood memories. I no longer have a private garden and I buy most of my herbs form “Enchantments” in the LES of Manhattan (but it’s cool). I live near a park (once sacred Native American ground) and I can meditate on my secluded rooftop. I am after all, the Warlock in The City aka “Warlock and The City.”

What else do you do at 5 a.m. when you can’t sleep? You shop online for vintage 90s clothing on ebay. In my defense, an iPad makes ebaying so much more addictive. It’s like playing “Cand Crush” or “Hay Day,” accept that when you win this game, your Paypal gets drained. Result below: (And yes, that is Darth Vader or “Surf Vader” in the photo above.
